Historical significance
The small north-shore beach and slipway alongside the Government Dock, still named on current maps as the Bathing Beach — the island's swimming water, and a use that reaches back to the resort era when a bathing pavilion served summer guests elsewhere on the shore.

- Lovers Retreat, a named cape, forms the beach's western edge.
- The fort's service buildings stand directly behind the shore.
