Summary

One of New England's leading Shingle-style architects. His firm designed the Thaxter Cottage, the Dakers cottage, the Farm House and Farm Buildings, and additions at the Ottawa — grouped together in Sargent's 1886 plate 'Picturesque Bits at Cushings.'

Stevens practiced from the First National Bank Building, Portland, and his cottage work on Cushing helped define the island's late-19th-century summer architecture. His plate in Sargent shows the range of the island's resort-era building types on a single page.
